It must have been a busy year...I can't believe my last post was from last September!! Most of the past year has been spent establishing new classes and improving my qualifications as well as running my regular classes and workshops. In addition, I have had the chance to perform at various dance events as a solo artist but also with my student groups. Last Friday though I had the privilege of singing with the BBC singers as the choir I sing with (the RAF Voluntary Choir The Spitfires) was invited to accompany them at a concert to mark the Battle of Britain. It was an amazing opportunity to work with professionals and learn from them. It was also nice to be directed by someone else and not have to do the thinking and organising myself! You can hear the concert on Radio 3 at 1930 on Tuesday 22 September.
Last night saw Bollywood hit the Birchwood Boiler House and the girls certainly got things hotting up. The evening started with a little bit of attention to sarees before we hit the dance floor to learn a dandiya stick routine which turned out to be quite impressive! Then a quick refreshment break and out came the scarves to finish the evening in elegant style with a beautiful flowing Bollywood track to sway our scarves to. Thank you to everyone who came along and joined in the fun (and for helping to clear up afterwards). Hope to see you all at future classes and workshops......and don't forget you can book a party for your special occasion!
As you can see from the photo Sitara - WAMTAs student dance group - braved the crazy summer UK weather to perform at the 2014 Lincoln Dance Festival. It was lovely to see everyone getting so excited about performing and it was fabulous for me to see my choreography brought to life for an audience. And to be honest it wouldn't truly be a dramatic Bollywood performance without a torrential downpour...our very own Bollywood Monsoon!!!
Our first set was made up of Bollywood Item songs then in our second set we tried to encourage onlookers to try some Banghra.....the children were a bit braver than the adults but of those that did join in a lot of fun was had by all!
Lincoln Dance Festival lasts all week with lots of free workshops for all. It culminates in a dance performance by professional and local amateur groups on Saturday 26 July at the Drill Hall so why not check out the Lincoln Dances Facebook page and try something new!

Scorching temperatures all week left me worrying whether barefeet would be an option for dancing at the Lincoln Dance festival on Saturday 20 July but luckily a cool breeze ensured it was perfect dance conditions! As part of the festival dancers from across the county came to perform on Lincoln High Street and as you can see from the photo there were a few talented audience members too! It was great to share my passion for Bollywood dance with passers by and see other dancers share their passions for breakdance, bharatanatyam, contemporary and street dance. The festival continues in a few weeks time with performances being held at the Lincoln Drill Hall...so go and get your dance fix and find out all the exciting dance classes you can get involved in around the area!!
On Friday 5 July I was very proud to be a part of a dance extravaganza in Boston. It was a bellydance event which I had been given permission to gatecrash so Aahladita got to dance!! It was a wonderful evening of dance and all the performers were amazingly creative and inspiring. Once again Mark Hurd Photography was on hand to capture the evening in all its splendour as can be seen on the attached photo. I am now looking forward to Aahladita's next performance as part of the Lincoln Dances Festival on 20 July. Why not come and watch all the performances in Lincoln High Street and have a fabulous day of culture! And remember if you would like Aahladita to dance at your event contact me!!
